Original measurement, 2026-05-14 to 2026-08-12
How many pages on a small site ever get a click
Google showed 5,177 pages across 35 small static utility and tool sites over ninety days, and 468 of them earned at least one click. That is a click yield of 9.04 percent. The median site sits at 9.57 percent, and the spread runs from 0 to 50 percent.
If the web scale figure is what you came for, it is Ahrefs, and it is the one to quote. Ahrefs found that 96.55 percent of the pages in its index get no traffic from Google at all, across roughly fourteen billion pages. That number and this one are not two readings of the same quantity, and section 04 sets out exactly how they differ. What this page adds is the part a web wide average cannot show you, which is how far apart two sites built the same way end up.
- 9.04percent of shown pages earned a click
- 5,177pages Google showed at least once
- 35domains measured, all one operator
- 0 to 50percent yield range across those domains
01The average hides an order of magnitude
The headline is the least interesting number here. Every site in this census was built by the same person, in the same way, on the same stack, and the click yield still runs from 0 to 50 percent. Sameness of method did not produce sameness of outcome. That spread, not the 9.04 percent average, is what the data is actually saying.
Shown means Google both indexed the page and put it in front of someone at least once in the window. A page that is indexed but never shown is invisible to this instrument, so this denominator is smaller and stricter than a sitemap count. It also separates two failures that a sitemap ratio blurs together. One is the page nobody was offered. The other is the page nobody chose.
02Place your own site in the distribution
Two numbers off your own Search Console are enough. Open the performance report, set the date range you want, and switch to the Pages tab. Google aggregates that tab by page rather than by property, which is why the per page counts live there. Read how many pages appear at all, then filter to pages with at least one click and read that count.
This tool runs entirely in your browser on the numbers you type. It reads no Search Console account, sends nothing anywhere, stores nothing, and is not a traffic forecast. It compares your ratio against the 34 measurable domains on this page and nothing else.
03The distribution across the measured domains
Every row is one domain, ordered from the highest click yield down. Yield is clicking pages divided by pages shown. Domain names are withheld because these are one operator's private properties. Withholding them changes no figure, because nothing on this page depends on which domain a row is.

| site 32 | 3 | 0 | 0.00 |
| site 33 | 3 | 0 | 0.00 |
| site 35 | 0 | 0 | not measurable |
5 of the 34 measurable domains were shown by Google and never clicked once, which is the flat run at the bottom of the chart. A further one of the 35 domains was never shown at all, so it has no yield to report and is marked not measurable rather than counted as zero. Every rate on this page is therefore taken over the 34 domains that were shown. Three other domains report more shown pages than they currently have URLs in their sitemap, because sitemap counts are read on the capture date while the click figures cover the previous ninety days. That is why no ratio here uses a sitemap count as its denominator.
04Three published figures over three populations
These rows are not interchangeable and the percentages cannot be subtracted from one another. Each counts a different population with a different instrument, so no row is a check on any other.
| Figure | Population measured | Sample size | Instrument | Any click or traffic |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ahrefs Content Explorer index source | share of pages in a third party crawler index with zero Google traffic | 14,000,000,000 pages | Ahrefs Content Explorer plus Ahrefs traffic estimation | 3.45 percent |
| Single site Search Console analysis source | share of one site's top 10 ranking pages with zero clicks | 510 pages ranking in the top 10 | Google Search Console, one site | 9.41 percent |
| This census, 35 owned domains | share of surfaced pages earning at least one click in 90 days | 5,177 pages Google showed at least once | Google Search Console Search Analytics API, page dimension, publisher side | 9.04 percent |
These three rows measure different populations with different instruments and are not interchangeable. Ahrefs counts pages a crawler found; this census counts pages Google actually showed to someone. A page that is indexed but never shown is inside the Ahrefs denominator and outside this one, which is the main reason the two any-traffic figures are close but not comparable.
05Methodology
Our method was to enumerate every Search Console property the operator's service account can read, confirm owner permission on each, then query the Search Analytics API at the page dimension over one fixed window. Two counts were taken per domain. Pages with at least one impression, and pages with at least one click. Where a domain property and a URL prefix property described the same host, the domain property was kept, because it is the superset.
The properties belong to the author, which is what makes this a publisher side measurement rather than a modelled one. Ownership is not asserted here. It is established by the API itself, since the collecting account holds owner permission on every property in the file.
No figure on this page is typed into the copy. Every number above is computed from the published snapshot when the page is built, so if the file changes the page changes with it. Where the page and the file disagree, the file is correct.

06What this census cannot tell you
These are reproduced from the limits recorded in the raw file itself. They were written when the data was collected, not composed for this page afterwards.
- LIMITThis is one operator's portfolio, not a random sample of the web. Every site is a small static utility or tool site built by the same person, so the figures describe that class of site and nothing wider.
- LIMITsurfacedPages counts pages Google both indexed and showed at least once in 90 days. A page that is indexed but never shown is invisible to this instrument and is not counted, so surfacedPages is a lower bound on indexed pages.
- LIMITThe GSC sitemaps endpoint returns indexed as 0 for every property in this capture, so the sitemap indexed field was not usable and is not reported.
- LIMITsitemapSubmitted is a snapshot taken on the capture date while the click and impression figures cover the preceding 90 days. Where a sitemap shrank or grew inside the window the two do not line up, and three domains return more surfaced pages than currently submitted URLs. Ratios against sitemapSubmitted are therefore reported as context only, and the headline yield uses surfacedPages, which comes from the same window as the numerator.
- LIMITGSC anonymises rare queries, which suppresses rows at the query dimension. The page dimension used here is far less affected, but it is not guaranteed complete.
- LIMITClicks are Google organic search only. Direct, referral and other engines are out of scope.
- LIMITThe Search Console Search Analytics API documentation states that it does not guarantee returning all data rows, only the top ones. The query used a rowLimit of 25000 and the largest property returned 2242 rows, so no property was truncated by the limit, but completeness is not guaranteed by the provider and is not claimed here.
- LIMITThis is a 90 day window. A page published inside the window had less than 90 days to earn its first click, so the yield figure is a lower bound for recently published pages and the census does not separate them out.
- LIMITDomain names are withheld. The measured properties are one operator's private portfolio, so each row is labelled site 01 through site 35, ordered by surfaced pages. Withholding the names changes no figure in this file, because no published number depends on which domain a row is.
07Reproduce this page from the raw file
The dataset is published unmodified beside this page. Every figure above can be recomputed from the perDomain array with the standard library alone. Sum the shown and clicking columns for the portfolio totals, then divide one by the other for the yield. For the median, sort the per domain yields and take the mean of the two middle values, because the number of measurable domains is even. Taking a single middle value from an even list overstates it, which is a mistake this page made before it was corrected on 2026-08-15.
The engine that measures this ships with the pipeline
The measurement loop behind this page is one of the layers in the repository this site sells. It runs on your machine, there is no hosted service and no account, and you pay once. Nothing about traffic, rankings or indexation is promised here or anywhere else on this site, because none of it has been measured.
Sixty day refund, no explanation required. The refund covers whether the software is what this site describes and whether it runs, never whether a search engine chose to index or rank anything built with it.
